Industrial Origins
(UIMM - Union of Metallurgical Crafts and Industries) was
set up in 1901. The Chambres Syndicales Professionnelles et
Territoriales are its regional units, which are federated
at the national level to represent French industry in the
social and labour relations field.
UIMM is representative of a broad community:
_ 45 000 companies ;
_ 1 800 000 employees.
_ Euros 2 100 billion sales ;
_ 55 % of the manufacturing industry output ;
_ 64 % of manufacturing industry exports. ;
Further to its manufacturing industry representative function,
UIMM has developed an extraordinarily extensive network:
_ 93 Chambres Syndicales Territoriales or local representative
organisations;
_ 50 Associations de Formation Professionnelle de l’Industrie
(AFPI -Industry Professional Training Associations) ;
_ 59 Centres de Formation d’Apprentis de l’Industrie
(CFAI - Industry Apprenticeship Training Centres);
_ 21 Instituts des Techniques d’Ingénieurs de
l’Industrie (ITII - Industry Engineering Technical Institutions)
;
_ 60 Associations de Développement des Formations des
Industries de la Métallurgie (ADEFIM - Association
for the Development of Training in the Metalworking Industries).
